He was born in 1936 in Lviv. He was a painter, stage designer, author of spatial forms, one of the leading representatives of indeterminism in visual arts in Poland. From 1953-1959 he studied at the Department of Precision Mechanics at the Warsaw University of Technology. In 1958-1959 he attended Aleksander Kobzdej's studio at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts as a free student, where he later took up regular studies. He defended his diploma in 1966. In the same year, he appeared at the Pulawy Symposium - where he was awarded the main prize - with works inspired by probability calculus, using black and white squares, thus the hallmark of all his work. In 1981, he took up the studio "Problems of Painting in Architecture and Human Environments" at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. For two terms (1985-1987 and 1987-1990) he served as pro-rector of the Warsaw academy. In 1990 he received the title of professor. His works are in major Polish museums and several foreign museums, as well as in many private collections. The artist died in 2006 in Warsaw.
