Rubuni was born in 1969 in Livangula, Tanzania. Initially, his life was not related to art. The artist came to Dar es Salaam in 1988 in search of work and in a while he was employed as a domestic worker. By this time his interest in art was growing, so after a year of work, however, he resigned and wrote a letter to the Tingatinga Cooperative asking to be hired as a painter. His teacher became the rather famous artist Mzee Chimwanda. After his artistic education, Rubuni Rashidi was recognized as a very good representative of the African Tingatinga painting trend, whose works are characterized by high quality and precision, with wild animals as the main motif in his work. In 2010, his works were used by Tokyo-based designer Ayumi Sufu (Jazzkatze), who showed a dress inspired by his work at the spring Tokyo Fashion. In 2008, Rubuni Rashidi's work was presented at an exhibition in Sweden (Lilagalerie).
